Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

Just a quick one today as there's really not much that I can say about a quiet day with only two meetings.

However, I do want to take a chance to talk a bit about the new Speed Ratings as yesterday was all (if that's not to big a word) All Weather and Flat.

I have to admit that I'm still struggling with deciding when to use the normal ratings and when to use the speed ratings as they are totally different strategies.

But, I'll get there... eventually.

Anyway, I'll get to that, firstly let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Yesterday's Results

Yesterday's Results, show a strike rate (for our top rated horse) of 16.67%.

The Overall Profit Index. If you had blindly backed every top three rated horse in all of the races you would have had 22.93 units returned to 39 units staked. The Overall Profit Index was, thus, -21.29%

Top Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 3.7 units returned to 12 units staked. The Top Rated Profit Index was, thus, -69.17%

2nd Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the second rated horse in all of the races you would have had 7.73 units returned to 14 units staked. The Second Rated Profit Index was, thus, -44.79%

3nd Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the third rated horse in all of the races you would have had 11.5 units returned to 13 units staked. The Third Rated Profit Index was, thus, -11.54%

Speed Ratings...

I'm going to run through yesterday's results from a Speed Ratings perspective.

Lingfield - All Weather

13:40 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Fresles; the 2nd rated horse was Lamar. They came first and second in the right order. The price for the win was 4.5 ISP (4.97 BSP.) The forecast paid £10.69

14:10 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Brother Tiger; the 2nd rated horse was Boom the Groom. They came 8th and 6th respectively.

14:40 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Tempus Temporis; the 2nd rated horse was Four Seasons. They came first and second but in the wrong order order. The reverse forecast paid £17.48

15:15 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Grey Mirage. He duly came first at 7.5 ISP (8.2 BSP.)

15:45 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Jack of Diamonds; the 2nd rated horse was Rebellious Guest. They came 8th and 6th respectively.

16:15 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Portamento; the 2nd rated horse was Apache Storm. They came 8th and 10th respectively.

16:45 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Hidden Gold; the 2nd rated horse was Urmanazin. They came 3rd and 9th respectively.

I'm not sure what conclusions can be drawn but, the two wins for the top rated horse would have meant that it was profitable to have blindly backed the top rated horse in all AW races yesterday (12 points returned to 7 points staked.)

Musselburgh - Flat

13:55 - None of the horses had a Flat speed rating.

14:25 - This race was missed off. I have no idea why.

14:55 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Spring Offensive; the 2nd rated horse was Moonlightnavigator. They came first and second but, in the wrong order. Moonlightnavigator's win paid 12.0 ISP (13.0 BSP.) The reverse forecast paid £68.04

15:30 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Tangerine Trees. He won and the win paid 9.5 ISP (12.08 BSP.) Our second rated horse was Borderlescott. He came second. The forecast paid £135.52

16:00 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Imperial Legend; the 2nd rated horse was Classy Anne. They came 11th and 10th respectively.

16:30 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Jammy Moment; the 2nd rated horse was Minionette. They came 9th and 7th respectively.

17:00 - Our top rated horse (according to the speed ratings) was Eastern Racer; the 2nd rated horse was Third Time Lucky. They came 3rd and 1st respectively. Third Time Lucky's win paid 1.73 ISP (1.77 BSP.)

Once again, I don't know what conclusions to draw but, by backing the top rated horse in all five rated races would have returned 9.5 units to 5 units staked.

The standout for me, though, is the forecasts. Had you done a £1 forecast in the five rated races it would have cost you £5 and the bookies would have given you £135.52 back.

Had you done a £2 reverse forecast in the five rated races it would have cost you £10 and you would have got £203.56 back.

Now, that's more like it!

One thing that I ought to mention is the consolidated speed rating (which you can get if you add both speed ratings together and divide by two.)

In the 4.15 at Lingfield, Lightscameraaction had the highest consolidated speed rating and, of course, came first at 20/1 (29.0 BSP.) Betfair paid 6.4 for the place.

So, something else to take a look at, maybe.

Today

Today's early test ratings show 35 rated races from five meetings.

I;m going to be spending most of today fixing the bug in the Builder where the actual profit figures are wrong. Oh, what fun. That'll teach me for rushing things in the first place!

Have a great day's racing!
