Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

Well, Aintree starts today and I really have no idea what to expect.

As far as I remember, we didn't have such a great Aintree last year.

It wasn't so horrible; it's just that I don't look back on it in the same way that I remember the Epsom Derby or Cheltenham where we did rather well (obscenely well at Epsom.)

And, as far as the Grand National is concerned...

The Sporting Life currently shows 65 runners for this race.

Now, I know that they won't all run but,

How can anyone rate a race like that (or come up with a decent betting selection for that race?)

I suppose that if you are a form guru and know everything about every runner, you might be able to narrow the field down to about 5 or 6 contenders and, if the prices are attractive enough, dutch them all but,

I rather suspect that, for most of us, it's a bit like buying a scratch card; you know that there's very little chance of winning but, if you do, you get a decent return.

For me, if I were a betting man, I go out and buy a scratch card and a nice cold beer or, choose a nice simple eight runner All Weather race to analyse instead.

Anyway, we'll see how things pan out on Saturday, firstly let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Yesterday's Results

Yesterday's Results, show a strike rate (for our top rated horse) of 30%.

The Overall Profit Index. If you had blindly backed every top three rated horse in all of the races you would have had 54.89 units returned to 86 units staked. The Overall Profit Index was, thus, -36.17%

Top Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 26.04 units returned to 30 units staked. The Top Rated Profit Index was, thus, -13.2%

2nd Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the second rated horse in all of the races you would have had 12.1 units returned to 27 units staked. The Second Rated Profit Index was, thus, -55.19%

3nd Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the third rated horse in all of the races you would have had 16.75 units returned to 29 units staked. The Third Rated Profit Index was, thus, -42.24%

Forecasts

There was 1 forecast yesterday.

Nottingham 14:40:00 - The CSF paid £7.87

Reverse Forecasts

There were 0 reverse forecasts yesterday.

Tricasts/Trifectas

There were 0 tricasts/trifectas yesterday.

Combination Tricasts/Trifectas

There was 1 combination trifecta yesterday.

Catterick 15:50:00 - The Trifecta paid £6.40

Winners

From the 32 rated races there were 17 winners (from the top 3 rated horses.) As I noticed last year, the average price of the winners is rather low in April (the lowest month of the year, in fact.) As a result, none of our winning horses were at nice prices.

The Portfolio

There was neither a Banker's Bet nor a Chancer's Bet yesterday.

On the Portfolio Page there is now a link to the Banker's Bet Proofing Page and, also to the Chancer's Bet proofing page.

You may subscribe to my Portfolio. To do so, you need to go to your Members Page and change option 4 on the Your Profile bit.

If you haven't subscribed, the button will say Yes - just click on it and you'll be signed up.

Today

Today's early test ratings show 31 rated races from five meetings.

Yesterday, one of the races at Catterick was missed off the speed ratings as the ratings didn't know that it was a Flat race.

And, as a result, any systems that were specific to Race Type would have also not had a selection.

I am working on a exception report that will inform me when this happens so that I can put things right but, until that is in place, I shall be manually checking to ensure that every race has a Race Type.

Today's early morning ratings look fine.

Have a great day's racing!
