Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsMorning News Line

Well, I have somehow managed to avoid making the decision to drive miles to go to the beach to stand in the rain...

Not catching fish!

Just so I can review yesterday's results instead.

And, believe me...

I'm really finding this a really worthwhile exercise!

For me, at least!

It really does help to look at the results every morning and...

Try to work out where we did well and where we went wrong.

It's making me start to think that, all that standing on a beach (in the rain) or, wandering round the forest looking for mushrooms is...

Not so important, after all?

Yesterday's Results

So, lets start off with the important stuff...

After 3 days of 35% and greater strike rates, we've had a disappointing day with a strike rate (for the top rated horse) of just 18.18%

A quick look at the Results shows that there's nothing fundamentally wrong; it was just a bad day.

However, I'm consoling myself that some of the 16 winners that we had (from the top three rated horses) were at decent prices.

Clonmel 3:55pm - I managed to rate 2 horses in this 5 runner Bumper and the second rated, Kennady, won at 20/1 (30.0 BSP.)

Interestingly, this was the Jockey's only ride at that meeting and the Trainer's only horse at the meeting (although I'm not sure that that matters so much with Bumpers?)

Kempton 4:20pm - Nouveau Foret was the second rated horse in this 13 horse Maiden and won at 12/1 (18.17 BSP.)

Once again, this was the Trainer's only horse at the meeting (and just look at the Trainer's Win Percentage?)

Kempton 7:20pm - In this 14 runner handicap, Multitask (our second rated horse) won at 8/1 (11.13 BSP.)

And, again, the Trainer's only horse at the meeting.

The Portfolio

Now, this is probably the most stressful thing that I've ever done!

And, once - in another life (before I chucked in a perfectly good job and moved to France), I was the Lead Engineer on the biggest Custody Transfer in the history of Banking ($800 billion - Morgan Stanley to Chase Manhattan - there'll never be a bigger one); that was easy compared to the Portfolio!

So, from today...

You may subscribe to my Portfolio. To do so, you need to go to your Members Page and change option 4 on the Your Profile bit.

My Portfolio will generally give you 1 or 2 selections each day.

There are, currently, 18 backing systems in my portfolio.

On average, I get 3 selections a day from these systems.

From these 3 selections I generate one selection; this is the Banker's Bet - the bet that has the highest historical Strike Rate over the last exact year.

Banker's Bet

If there is only one selection, it will be the Banker's Bet.

This is the selection with the highest historic Strike Rate from the last year from my portfolio of systems.

This is the bet that I shall be wasting my Red Wine and Smelly Cheese fund on, each day.

Chancer's Bet

If there is more than one selection (from my portfolio of systems), then I shall choose the one with the highest ROI (over the last exact year) as a chancer bet.

If I'm betting £2 on the Banker's Bet each day, then I'll be putting £1 on the Chancer's Bet when they appear - I'm not really a punter!

Your Daily Email

Initially, you'll receive your Portfolio Selections as a separate email at about 10:15am every morning.

However, once the system is up and running, I'd like to put your Portfolio selections at the top of your morning Ratings email.

And, ultimately, I'd like to put your System Selections on the bottom of your Daily Ratings Email.

That way, you'll only get one email a day but it'll arrive earlier for many of you.

However; I have to do things one step at a time.

I have updated the Portfolio Page to explain things better.

Confused? Banging your head?

head-bangingIf you're confused, why not just try things out for the next few weeks or so?

Really...

That head banging stuff doesn't do much good?

Just sign up to the Portfolio (go to your Members Page and change option 4 on the Your Profile bit) and follow the selections?

Probably best to paper trade for the first few weeks?

As an example, yesterday our Banker's Bet would have been...

All Weather Bankers - where R4 Status = 1 and where Race Type = All Weather and Horse\'s last run was less than 42 days ago and the Race\'s RC1 is greater than 86% and the Horse\'s Confidence is greater than 150% and the Forecast Starting Price was less than 3.1

Selection = Back to ISP - Kempton (AW) - 17:20:00 - Dalgig (2)

Races (over last year): 31 Wins: 23 Strike Rate: 74.19% ROI: 124.64%

Because, of the 4 selections the portfolio generated, this one had the highest historic Strike Rate.

And, because we had more than one selection, a Chancer's Bet would have also been generated.

NH Chase - Mares who are top rated and came 3rd last time out - where R4 Status = 1 and where Race Type = National Hunt - Chase and Horse = Mare and where Position last time out = Third

Selection = Back to ISP - Clonmel - 14:55:00 - Une Artiste (2)

Races (over last year): 20 Wins: 7 Strike Rate: 35.00% ROI: 197.40%

Because, of the 4 selections the portfolio generated, this one had the highest historic ROI.

Any other business

And finally...

One of our members has asked about Dutching the top three rated horses; this is something that I'm looking at in the hope of coming up with a strategy. If I come up with anything, I'll let you know.

Oh, I should mention that, because I want to walk the Portfolio process through, this morning...

The Portfolio email may come out at any time between 10:30am and 11:30am. This is just for today as I need to make sure that everything is working before I send out the mail.

5 star ratingsOnce again, if you've got anything to say about Focus Ratings, please wander over to Focus Ratings Review and have your say.

As always...

My kindest regards
