Morning News – 2022-10-14

Good morning...

A few IT problems yesterday wasted most of my day sorting them out.

Today I am migrating an important database to a new server.

The existing database will remain in place but the new one. being on a new server, will allow me to run scripts against it without slowing the main server down (and, thus, causing the ratings to go out late.)

Fiddly work but it has to be done.

Something to make you smile...

Two beggars...

It is Easter Sunday in front of Saint Sophia’s Cathedral in Constantinople sometime during the Crusades.

Two beggars are sitting in front of the cathedral.

One is wearing a tattered suit of armor and is covered in bandages. In front of him is a sign: “Give Alms to a poor Crusader who was wounded fighting to recover the Holy Land”.

The other has a long beard and is wearing a caftan and a Star of David. In front of him is a sign: “Alms for a Jew.”

The Mass is over at the Cathedral and people are streaming out. As they pass the two beggars, many people dig deep into their pockets to give some coins to the Crusader. Nobody gives any money to the Jew, and many worshippers insult him and even kick him. In fact, in order to show their contempt for the Jew, many worshippers dig even deeper into their pockets and give the Crusader an additional amount.

The Bishop emerges from the Cathedral. When he sees the two beggars, he goes back into the cathedral and emerges with the collection box for the Easter service. He gives the entire contents to the Crusader, spits on the Jew and says: “THAT will show you the difference between a faithful holy warrior and a despicable Jew! I have turned over the entire proceeds of today’s collection to this worthy Crusader, you dog of a Jew. And to think that you people have the reputation of knowing how to swindle money from pious Christians! Ha, ha, ha!”

As the crowd thins away, the Crusader and the Jew get up and leave the square. As they turn the corner, the Jew says to the Crusader: “So, Moishe. These Christians think they can teach US business?!”
