Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning

Obviously, I'm going to want to tell you about our £416.53 Tricast but, first I need to give you...

An Early Morning Warning!

I've slightly changed the format of the morning email...

And there's more to come!

I want to do it in stages as, that way, it's easier to fix when it all goes horribly wrong.

Now, I think it's going to work but, for today, I shall be manually kicking off the scripts that send out the emails and thus...

The Ratings, Builder and Portfolio emails may arrive 5 to 10 minutes later than normal.

For any of you who scroll down to the bottom of the morning email, you may notice that there is some new stuff appearing there; this is just for test purposes so, rather than confuse you with an explanation, it's probably best not to scroll down to the bottom of the email or, if you do, just ignore whatever is below my signature.

And now that I've got that off my chest, let's look at yesterday's results.

Yesterday's Results

Nothing stood out for me when I did yesterday's Morning News and, indeed, nothing stood out during the day (apart from the Tricast.)

And, as you can see, from the Results, nothing stood out results wise.

However, to get a strike rate (for the top rated horse) of 33.33% is pretty impressive.

Especially as, last December, we had an average strike rate of 23.03%.

Forecasts

There were three forecasts yesterday.

Sandown 13:5 - The CSF paid £9.03

Wolverhampton 18:30 - The CSF paid £7.02

Dundalk 18:45 - The CSF paid £13.50

Tricast

There was one tricast yesterday.

Lingfield 13:00 - The Tricast paid £416.53!

Winners

From the 32 rated races there were 15 winners (from the top 3 rated horses) - three of those were at decent prices.

Course Time Horse ISP BSP
Lingfield 14:40 Desert Strike 17.0 21.5
Wolverhampton 18:30 L'inganno Felice 6.0 7.05
Dundalk 20:15 Akasaka 8.0 9.89

Comments...

The main thing that comes to mind with yesterday's races is...

How well the Live Ratings are able to cope with non-runners.

This will be far more important next summer when there will be more non-runners.

1). Lingfield 12:30 - Our 3rd rated horse was a non-runner. The Live Ratings brought in Dreamlike to replace him. Dreamlike went on to win at 3.75 ISP (3.88 BSP.)

2). Sandown 12:50 - The race was unrated as I could only rate 2 out of the 6 runners. The top rated horse was Baraka de Thaix and the 2nd rate horse was Baron Alco. Baron Alco came 3rd.

3). Lingfield 13:00 - We got the first three in the right order in this race. The Tricast paid a magnificent £416.53!

4). Sandown 13:20 - This race was unrated as I could only rate 3 out of the 8 runners. The top rated horse was Sir Mangan, the 2nd rated horse was Josie's Order and the 3rd rated horse was Generous Ransom, Generous Ransom went on to win at 8.5 ISP (10.97 BSP.)

5). Sandown 13:55 - We got the Forecast in this race. The CSF paid £9.03.

6). Lingfield 14:40 - Our 3rd rated horse, Desert Strike, won this race at 17.0 ISP (21.5 BSP.)

7). Exeter 15:50 - This race was unrated as I could only rate 2 or the 12 runners. Neither of the rated horses featured in the first three.

8). Wolverhampton 18:30 - We got the Forecast in this race. The CSF paid £7.02

9). Dundalk 18:45 - We got the Forecast in this race. The CSF paid £13.50

10). Dundalk 19:15 - Our top rated horse was a non-runner. The Live Ratings promoted the 2nd rated and 3rd rated horses and brought in Tsar Paul as the new 3rd rated horse.

dundalk-19-15

Tsar Paul won at 7.0 ISP (8.01 BSP.)

11). Wolverhampton 19:30 - Our top rated horse was a non-runner. The Live Ratings promoted the 2nd rated and 3rd rated horses and brought in Hickster as the new 3rd rated horse.

wolverhampton-19-30

Hickster won at 7.0 ISP (7.44 BSP.)

12). Dundalk 20:45 - Our 3rd rated horse was a non-runner. The Live ratings brought in Saga Diamond as the new 3rd rated horse. Saga Diamond came 3rd at 6.0 Betfair Place Price.

Any other business

And finally...

Portfolio Bets

As I've already mentioned, from today (if all goes well), I shall be displaying the Average SP (over the last year) for our Portfolio bets.

Now, the rationale for this is as follows...

Stan very kindly took the time to explain to me that although a system can produce valid selections based upon a set of criteria, sometimes it might produce a selection that is outside the normal SP range.

In other words...

A system might happily produce selection after selection with a Strike Rate of 50% at an Average SP of 3.0 (thus giving an ROI of 150%.)

However, should that system bring up Black Beauty tomorrow and Black Beauty is 12/1 at the bookies, you'd be right to raise your eyebrows slightly and wonder about that selection.

By showing the Average SP of the system that produced that selection, I'll allowing you to do just that.

Winter Upgrades

I've written a post to detail the Winter Upgrades - you can see it here... Winter Upgrades

I am updating that post to show which upgrades have been implemented and, where possible, to indicate when I think that an upgrade may be implemented.

UPG001 has been implemented. So, there are now options (on the morning email) to download PDF files which show the previously unrated races.

UPG007The morning Builder Selections email will be adjusted to show the name of the original publisher of each system. This will help you differentiate your systems from the ones (created by other people) that you have subscribed to. I have implemented this; it was a simple operation and the patient appears to be doing well.

UPG002Fix the bug in the ratings PDFs – sometimes races spill over from one page to another and sometimes there isn’t a gap between the races. I believe that I have fixed this. However, for the PDFs that show all horses in a race, the problem still exists and there's nothing that I can do about it (well, I can but it'll make those print outs very large and I believe that I have another, more elegant solution - watch this space.)

UPG009 – I’m going to redesign the morning ratings email to make it easier to understand.

Now, the latter upgrade may prove quite confusing to you as the link to your normal download won't be where you expect it to be.

Please bear with me, ultimately this will make the morning email easier to use.

UPG003 - Produce an additional ratings PDF - This will only show 5 races per page but will leave space for jotting down notes. I have implemented this - it will be available on the morning email - it is called the Normal Ratings - notes version.

Dutching

The new spreadsheet has been generated but I haven't been able to get much done with it yet.

Please, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this part of my work.

Today

Six meetings today and the big race of the day is the 3pm at Sandown , otherwise known as the Tingle Creek Chase.

The early morning test ratings has got that race predicted as...

Balder Succes

Oscar Whiskey and

God's Own

However, that could all change by the time the real ratings come out.

I've just run the test ratings and they look good, with 39 rated races.

1). Aintree 13:30 - The Becher Chase looks like a worry to me; 25 runners and our top three rated horses are just a smidgin apart from each other in ratings. I'm guessing that this may a difficult race for us.

2) Wolverhampton 18:45 - Portamento (our top rated horse) is the stand out horse in this race (with a confidence of 198.90%) and he's dropping in class.

And that, I'm afraid, is it. Generally a very tight day's racing (according to the early test ratings), which doesn't bode well for a good strike rate but if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing.

Have a great day's racing!

5 star ratingsOnce again, if you've got anything to say about Focus Ratings, please wander over to Focus Ratings Review and have your say.

As always...

My kindest regards
