Morning News – 24/02/2021

Good morning...

Yesterday was a less good day for the new R8 ratings than I have been seeing.

Of the 8 R8 rated races,

Our top rated horse was a non-runner in one of them.

Of the remaining 7 races only two of them were won by the top rated horse.

That equates to a strike rate of 28.5%

Historically, we have been seeing a strike rate of just over 32%.

Let's see what today brings us.

On another, slightly related, note...

I realised yesterday that, I can actually compute Advance Ratings the afternoon of the day before the race.

If I were to that, I would get identical numbers and ratings to those produced first thing in the morning of race day.

Thus I could create a sort of R8 for Early Bird Ratings the evening before race day.

I know that I've got plenty of other things to get on with but...

This might be of real value both to members of EarlyBird Ratings and also to members of Focus Ratings who get the early preview ratings.

The Overall Profit Index. If you had blindly backed every top three rated horse in all of the races you would have had 38.52 units returned to 59 units staked. The Overall Profit Index was, thus, -34.71%

Top Rated Horse - There were 7 winners from the top rated horses from 20 Races. If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 19.32 units returned to 20 units staked. The Top Rated Profit Index was, thus, -3.4%

2nd Rated Horse - There were 2 winners from the second rated horses from 19 Races. If you had blindly backed the 2nd rated horse in all of the races you would have had 5.95 units returned to 19 units staked. The 2nd Rated Profit Index was, thus, -68.68%

3rd Rated Horse - There were 2 winners from the third rated horses from 20 Races. If you had blindly backed the 3rd rated horse in all of the races you would have had 13.25 units returned to 20 units staked. The 3rd Rated Profit Index was, thus, -33.75%

Non Handicap Races - Top Rated Horse - There were 7 non-handicap races yesterday. From these races there were 3 Top Rated winners. Thus, the Strike Rate (for Top Rated Horses) was 42.86%

Top Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 7.49 units returned to 7 units staked. The Top Rated Non-Handicap Profit Index was, thus, 7%

Non Handicap Races - Top Three Rated Horses - There were 7 non-handicap races yesterday. From these races there were 4 Top Three Rated winners. Thus, the Strike Rate (for the Top Three Rated Horses) was 57.14%

Cause and Effect...

An old sailor was out walking on the dock one day when he met a former ship mate of his.

They had not seen each other for many years so they had much to talk about and many old memories to renew.

After some time, one said to the other , "If you don't mind my saying so, you don't look very good, you must have experienced some bad luck".

"Yes," the other one said, "I have. You see this peg leg? Well, one day I was out on deck and my leg become dangled up in a loose line and it was so badly mangled that they had to take it off at the knee."

His friend agreed that was bad luck.

The other one continued.

"You see I have a hook for a hand. One day I was out on deck when a shipmate of mine fell overboard. I leaned over as far as I could in a attempt to rescue him and as I extended my hand to him a shark took my hand off."

"My, you really did experience bad luck, the other responded, I see you have a patch over one eye, What happened to your eye?"

"Well, I was out on deck again one day and just as I looked up, a seagull that was flying over , unloaded, and got me right in the eye."

"My, My,(not real sailor talk) did that take your eye out?"

"No, that was the first day I had my hook."
