Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

Well, am back in France/Brittany/Home.

I do apologise for whatever happened on Saturday (the late ratings and no system selections); I did take my laptop but it decided that it didn't want to work in the UK (as did my French phone) and, as I was busy booking out of my hotel at the time (that the ratings were coming out) I was between a rock and a hard place as to what I could realistically do to sort things out.

I have learnt a few things...

I need to buy a small laptop that will work wherever I am.

I now know why Britain is coming out of the recession faster than the rest of Europe - it's all down to your money! How big are your £20 notes! Your 50p pieces are bigger than our 2 euro coins! And your 2p coins are so large that they must be worth a fortune!

And, having had three full English breakfasts in 3 days I do appreciate that the French version of a full English breakfast, a croissant, a glass of orange juice and a strong coffee (and 10 Gauloise cigarettes), probably fully explains French military failures at Dunkirk and Agincourt.

Mind you, I have put on 28 stone in four days - perhaps I exaggerate ever so slightly?

Mum's funeral went fine; she wanted to go home (Cornwall) and have her ashes scattered where her parents (my Granny and Grandpa) ashes had been scattered - that was done.

She wanted all the family to get together and pig out on pasties and Cornish cream tea - that was done as well.

God, I don't miss much about the UK but I did discover that I really miss Cornish Cream Tea (scones, home made jam and proper Cornish Clotted Cream!)

I also realised that I might just be an expat; I realised that when I did a trip to Tesco and had to buy a rucksack to fill up with Marmite and Cheddar Cheese; Customs (on returning to France) was interesting... "Sir, is there any reason why you appear to be carrying 20 jars of Marmite, 5 packets of Liquorice allsorts and 2 kilos of Cheddar Cheese in your rucksack?"

Also, buying a pack of fags was interesting - since when have your tabacs had to hide the fags away behind a screen?

Truro (where I was born) seems to have got very busy. I know that I haven't been there for 20 years but it does seem that every other shop has now become a Michelin star aspiring restaurant - back in my day it was just a few fish and chip shops.

When did Truro get so posh?

So, I haven't had much sleep over the last 4 days (too much time spent sitting up all night talking to brothers and sisters - probably the last time that we all get together as a family - although, as eldest son, I do have a cunning plan to ensure that that isn't the case) and, as a result, will be taking today off. I'll hit the ground running tomorrow (Tuesday) and will be replying to your emails then.

You know, the weirdest thing is that...

In France, if you live in a small village, you walk down the high street and you tend to shake everyone's hand (or kiss their cheek if they are female) and say "Bonjour" - just try doing that in Truro! They just think that you're a nutter...

Which, in my case, just might be true?

Anyway, enough of that, let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Place Betting Selections

To be honest, I haven't had much sleep over the last 4 days and will be updating these selections later on today.

Sorry but I do have to be honest.

Today

Today's early test ratings show 34 rated races from four meetings.

Now, if you don't mind...

I need to try and get some sleep - I remember sleep - it's that sort of thing that you do when the bars close.

Have a great day's racing!
