Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

A less than stellar day, yesterday.

And I'm really struggling to find something good to say about it so I'll just give up and get on to more important things.

From my 6 top recent performing race type selections (that I mentioned in yesterday's post about Recent Results by Race Type) I had a win, a 3rd, two 2nds and a non-runner. In theory my strike rate was 20% and, thus, beat the normal strike rate but it really was inconclusive. I shall persevere, though.

I have been asked if this can be inputted into the Builder. Well, the answer is, at the moment, no.

However, I shall run a script this afternoon to do the following...

1). For a complete year (2016), for every day I shall calculate the recent race type performance for every race and record the result. That's potentially 10,000 calculations and I really have no idea how long that is going to take.

2). Then, I need to script to go back through every day and work out the ranking of the recent performance (best performing = rank 1, second best = rank 2 etc.) and add in that data.

3). Finally I need to output all the data to a spreadsheet so that I can do some analysis of it.

The first query will be to see if, on a daily basis, the performance of the top 6 race (in terms of recent results by race type) beats the overall performance of each day's results. If it does, then we're onto something.

Then, I suppose, the next question is "Is 28 days the best period to use?"

To work this out I'll just have to run the same script a number of times (once at 14 days, once at 35 days and so on) to try to identify the sweet spot.

But, hey ho...

Once step at a time. Fun lies ahead, I think.

Lights Out

A nun, really needing to go to the bathroom, walked into a neighborhood pub. The place was hopping with music and dancing but every once in a while the lights would turn off. Each time after the lights would go out the place would erupt into cheers. However, when the revellers saw the nun, the room went dead silent. She walked up to the bartender, and asked," May I
please use the restroom?"

The bartender replied, "I really don't think you should."

"Why not? " the nun asked.

"Well, there is a statue of a naked man in there, and his most private part is covered only by a fig leaf. "

"Nonsense," said the nun, "I'll just look the other way."

So the bartender showed the nun the door at the top of the stairs, and she proceeded to the restroom. After a few minutes, she came back out, and the whole place was hopping with music and dancing again. However, they did stop just long enough to give the nun a loud round of applause.

She went to the bartender and said, "Sir, I don't understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?"

"Well, now they know you're one of us," said the bartender. "Would you like a drink?"

"But, I still don't understand," said the puzzled nun.

"You see," laughed the bartender, "every time the fig leaf is lifted on the statue, the lights go out in the whole place. Now, how about that drink, Sister.
