Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

The new ratings (which will be added to Focus Ratings R4 to make R5) started pretty well yesterday.

There were only 2 meetings and, from the 14 races, one of the top rated horses was a non runner.

From the remaining 13 races, 6 were won by the top rated horse.

This equates to a strike rate of 46.15%.

To ISP, 14.833 points were returned to 13 points staked. This equates to a POI (profit on investment/stakes) of 14.10%.

To BSP, 17.261 points (after a 5% commission was deducted) were returned to 13 points staked. This equates to a POI (profit on investment/stakes) of 32.78%.

Once I add these to Focus Ratings R4 (to create R5), Focus Ratings will be a force to contend with. Good days lie ahead!

It was also a good day for the normal ratings...

A 38.46% strike rate (for the top rated horse) is nothing to complain about.

For more detail, here are the results in the Traffic Light Results PDF format... Yesterday's Traffic Light Results

Anyway, I'll get to that, firstly let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Yesterday's Results

Yesterday's Results, show a strike rate (for our top rated horse) of 38.46%.

Yesterday's Live Ratings, show a strike rate (for our top rated horse) of 35.71%.

The Overall Profit Index. If you had blindly backed every top three rated horse in all of the races you would have had 34.5 units returned to 32 units staked. The Overall Profit Index was, thus, 7.81%

Top Rated Horse - There were 5 winners from the top rated horses from 13 Races. If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 10.17 units returned to 13 units staked. The Top Rated Profit Index was, thus, -21.77%

2nd Rated Horse - There were 3 winners from the second rated horses from 10 Races. If you had blindly backed the 2nd rated horse in all of the races you would have had 15.33 units returned to 10 units staked. The 2nd Rated Profit Index was, thus, 53.3%

3rd Rated Horse - There were 1 winners from the third rated horses from 9 Races. If you had blindly backed the 3rd rated horse in all of the races you would have had 9 units returned to 9 units staked. The 3rd Rated Profit Index was, thus, 0%

Non Handicap Races - Top Rated Horse - There were 4 non-handicap races yesterday. From these races there were 2 Top Rated winners. Thus, the Strike Rate (for Top Rated Horses) was 50%

Top Rated Horse - If you had blindly backed the top rated horse in all of the races you would have had 4.17 units returned to 4 units staked. The Top Rated Non-Handicap Profit Index was, thus, 4.25%

Non Handicap Races - Top Three Rated Horses - There were 4 non-handicap races yesterday. From these races there were 3 Top Three Rated winners. Thus, the Strike Rate (for the Top Three Rated Horses) was 75%

A Possible Strategy

Lee took a look at what happens if you back the Focus Ratings top rated horse when it is also the Advance Ratings top rated horse.

Yesterday there were 6 of these matches...

Southwell 13:30 - On the Warpath - won @ 4/6 ISP (1.74 BSP)

Fontwell 13:45 - Roksana - won @ 6/4 ISP (2.64 BSP)

Southwell 14:00 - Good Time Ahead - won @ 6/4 ISP (2.63 BSP)

Fontwell 14:15 - Mendip Express - lost

Fontwell 14:45 - Our Merlin - won @ 1/1 (2.04 BSP)

Southwell 15:00 - Mach One - won @ 5/2 (3.65 BSP)

So, 5 winners from 6 selections means a strike rate of 83.33%

To ISP 12.166 points were returned to 6 points staked. This equates to a POI of 102.78%

To BSP 12.065 points were returned (after a 5% deduction) to 6 points staked. This equates to a POI of 101.03%

I'll be trying to back test this strategy today.

Something to make you smile...

Old Duck

A man took his old duck to the Doctor, concerned because the duck wouldn't eat.

The Doctor explained to the man that as ducks age their upper bills grow down over their lower bills and make it difficult for the animal to pick up it's food.

"What you need to do is gently file the upper bill down even with the lower bill. But you must be extra careful because the duck's nostrils are located in the upper bill and if you file down too far, when the duck takes a drink of water it'll drown."

The man goes about his business and about a week later the Doctor runs into his patient.

"Well, how is that duck of yours?" the Doctor inquires.

"He's dead." declared the heartbroken man.

"I told you not to file his upper bill down too far! He took a drink of water and drowned didn't he?" insisted the Doctor.

"No." lamented the man. "I think he was dead before I took him out of the vice."

Today's early test ratings show 22 rated races from three meetings.

Every race is rated.

Have a great day's racing!

As always...

My kindest regards
