Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning...

The beady eyed amongst you may have noticed that there is a new link on the morning ratings email.

This is for the normal ratings but using R5 rather that R4.

To see how R5 has historically performed, I have created a spreadsheet for you.

This may be seen (downloaded from) this link... R5.xlsx

The first tab shows the actual data.

The second tab shows some initial analysis. As you can see, in 2016 the top rated horse had a 31.83% strike rate and generated profits (to level stakes to ISP) of 15.92%.

In 2017 (year to date) the top rated horse had a 33.46% strike rate and generated profits (to level stakes to ISP) of 22.48%.

The third tab shows some HRS analysis. HRS is Horse Rating Status and is the ratings status for that horse from Advance Ratings. Remember, R5 is R4 plus ADR (the ratings from Advance Ratings.)

It is clear that when the top rated horse on R5 is also the top rated horse on Advance Ratings, the strike rate (over the 2 year period) is 35.26% compared to the strike rate for R5 (over the same period) of 32.55%.

Additionally, the POI (profit on stakes to ISP) is 20.60% compared to a strike rate for R5 over the same period of 18.80%.

The fourth tab shows the original data but only those races where the top rated horse on R5 is also the top rated horse on Advance Ratings.

The final tab shows specific race type analysis (where the horse is top rated on R5 and also top rated on Advance Ratings) to show for which race types R5 works best.

I have taken out the non-profitable race types.

I bet that some of you can see some potential systems staring you in your face.

Anyway, I'll continue trying to get the ratings PDFs and CSV files generated.

Something to make you smile...

Deep Hole

Two guys are walking through the woods and come across this big deep hole.

"Wow...that looks deep." "Sure does... toss a few pebbles in there and see how deep it is."

They pick up a few pebbles and throw them in and wait... no noise.

"Jeeez. That is REALLY deep... here.. throw one of these great big rocks down there. Those should make a noise."

They pick up a couple football-sized rocks and toss them into the hole and wait... and wait.

Nothing.

They look at each other in amazement. One gets a determined look on his face and says, "Hey...over here in the weeds, there's a railroad tie. Help me carry it over here. When we toss THAT sucker in, it's GOTTA make some noise."

The two drag the heavy tie over to the hole and heave it in. Not a sound comes from the hole.

Suddenly, out of the nearby woods, a goat appears, running like the wind. It rushes toward the two men, then right past them, running as fast as it's legs will carry it. Suddenly it leaps in the air and into the hole.

The two men are astonished with what they've just seen...

Then, out of the woods comes a farmer who spots the men and ambles over.

"Hey... you two guys seen my goat out here?"

"You bet we did! Craziest thing I ever seen! It came running like crazy and just jumped into this hole!"

"Nah", says the farmer, "That couldn't have been MY goat. My goat was chained to a railroad tie."

Today

Today's early test ratings show 36 rated races from five meetings.

Have a great day's racing!

As always...

My kindest regards
