Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsNow...

Believe it or not...

I do understand that communication is key.

I've been a bit under the weather for the last few weeks which is why I haven't been posting as much as I should.

And I don't really believe in taking medication, unless...

It's distilled in Scotland and aged in an oak barrel for at least 12 years!

So, I've come up with a way of letting you know what's happening (and what's happened) at Focus Ratings.

The Morning News Line

Every morning, I shall do a quick Blog post to review the previous day's performance...

To explain any changes that I've made the day before...

And to warn you of any changes that I'm planning to make.

It's basically just a way for me to keep in touch.

Now, I have to qualify what I've just said.

1). If the sun is shining (and it's not raining) and the Bass are biting then...

I'll be off to the beach and you'll have to forgo the Morning News.

At least I'm honest?

Although I'll probably say something, the next day, like...

"Sorry for no Morning News Line yesterday; I had technical issues."

So, if I mention Technical Issues you can assume that I've taken the morning off and been fishing (or Mushrooming - another of my hobbies) or, just fancied a lie in?

2. I'll start out by sending you a mail to let you know that the Morning News is ready.

However, after the first few, I'll only be sending you a mail if there's something important to say.

The Blog will still be visible on the site (just under the Free Trial bit on the front page.)

This will stop me filling up your inbox with my chatter and gossip.

3. Seriously, I imagine that I'll be able to manage 5 Morning News Lines a week but I think that they'll be worthwhile.

For example, some days we have a lousy strike rate for the top rated horse (and that upsets me) but...

The few winners that we have are at good prices (and I like that!)

Thus, it helps me to do a mini review of the previous day's results - it sort of puts things into perspective?

And, I also have a list of upgrades and new features that you have requested; once I start implementing them, I'll need to let you know about it?

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, is a great new site where people (like you and me) can review the performance and services of Tipsters, Bookmakers and...

Of course, Ratings services like Focus Ratings!

We've already had 14 reviews - take a look at them here... Focus Ratings Review

I like this idea - it really keeps people like me on our toes as I have no way of controlling what people say about Focus Ratings?

It's a bit like the Horse Racing equivalent of TripAdvisor?

Thank you to those of you who have already reviewed Focus Ratings and..

If you haven't and, if you've got anything to say about Focus Ratings, please wander over to Focus Ratings Review and have your say.

Morning News

So, onto the important bit...

October is the cruelest month

Yes, T.S. Elliot only got it half right (link to the only poem of his that I sort of understood - I was always a sort of Maths, Physics and Chemistry sort of kid at school - rugby, as well - I liked Rugby - wasn't any good at it, though?)

April is cruel (the change over from Jumps to the Flat but, with some Flat horses having knackered themselves on the All Weather during the winter) but...

From a Ratings perspective, October is a pretty hard month for me.

Last year I implemented some changes to help the transition from Flat to Jumps but, to be honest, it didn't really help much?

I'm going to have to scratch my head to see if I can come up with a better strategy for next year.

Yesterday's Results...

So, with 5 meetings yesterday (36 races but I could only rate 32 of them) we had a nice mix of opportunities.

And we did pretty well with a strike rate of 35.71% for the top rated horse.

The best of which was...

Exeter 2:40 Dormaello Mo who won at 5/1 (ISP)

So, that's three days in a row where the top rated horse had a 35% or better strike rate.

Interestingly, the top rated horse came in the first 3 horses home in 71.43% of all races.

I'm guessing that that's down to smaller field sizes?

Although Minot Street won in 12 horse Apprentice race at Dundalk (8:40pm) at 4/1?

And, in the first race of the day (the 12:50 at Ayr), we got the reverse forecast in a 13 horse race.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with yesterday's results. Bangor on Dee was a bit of a let down; apparently there were heavy showers there but...

There were heavy showers at Exeter as well and we got 3 wins and 1 second from the 4 rated races there so...

Who knows?

Any other business

And finally...

There was a little bug with the Early Bird Preview ratings (where it would pull in random races?)

Well, I have fixed that now and yesterday's early ratings went out with the right races (and only the right races.)

As far as the Portfolio is concerned, it's all there and ready but...

I have to go out this morning and I don't want to implement it unless I'm around - just in case it all goes horribly wrong.

Thank you for your patience with the Portfolio - I've had to do some really deep thinking about how to put it into place.

Once again, , if you've got anything to say about Focus Ratings, please wander over to Focus Ratings Review and have your say.

As always...

My kindest regards
