Morning News – 24/02/2021

6620418Good morning... Yesterday was a less good day for the new R8 ratings than I have been seeing. Of the 8 R8 rated races, Our top rated horse was a non-runner in one of them. Of the remaining 7 races only two of them were won by the top rated horse. That equates to a strike rate of 28.5% Historically, we have been seeing a strike rate of just over 32%. Let's see what today brings us. On another, slightly related, note... I realised yesterday that, I can actually compute Advance Ratings the afternoon of the day before the race. If I were to that, I would get identical numbers and ratings to those produced first thing in the morning of race day. Thus I could create a sort of R8 for Early Bird Ratings the evening before race day. I know that I've got plenty of other things to get on with but... This might be of real value both to members of EarlyBird Ratings and also to members of Focus Ratings who get the early preview ratings.

Morning News – 05/02/2021

6620418Good morning... Just to let you know... The AntePost Ratings for the Grand National are now available. There is one key standout contender... Tiger Roll gets a rating of 11.65 and, the second rated horse, Santini only has a rating of 6.69 The Racing Post is showing an Ante Post price of 16/1 for Tiger Roll (the lowest price on offer at this point - thus, the favourite.) Santini and The Conditional (the 3rd rated horse) are both at 25/1 The 4th rated horse has a price of 33/1 and the 5th rated horse (which also has the 5th lowest price according to the Racing Post) is at 20/1 I'm trying to get my head around it but... It does look like an each way bet on each of the top 5 rated horses might be an interesting thing to do. If you want free access to, just ask... It's free for you.

Pick and Mix – What you get…

The services that you are entitled to..

il_340x270.2562060142_jpskThere has been some confusion, recently, about what services members of the various service that I provide are entitled to. As you know, during the 10 week period when we had no GB or IRE racing, I published some new sites so that we could carry on with Hong Kong racing and International Group, Graded and Listed races. Although these are paid services, I decided to let Focus Ratings members (and members of my other services) access them for free. Now some of my services have to always be paid only - this is generally when I am sharing the revenue with business partners; it would be rude of me to give access to those services away for free. Below are the list of my services and lists of what other services that those members can access for free. Below that list there are descriptions of the individual services.

Sunday Smile…

imagesHello again... Possibly inspired by the French Ratings that I sent out earlier on, Daniel (who advises me on the Hong Kong racing) kindly shared a video with me. I actually got a little bit emotional watching this video (the weepy stuff starts at about 1 minute 50 seconds.) Now, it's not very often that I get emotional (generally only when Spurs win a football match - once again, not very often) but for a moment I thought that I might have some dust behind my contact lenses... Until I remembered that I don't wear contact lenses. You can download the video here... or... You catch watch it on You Tube... Strangely enough, my local old people's home/care home/geriatric hospital has animals; 4 donkeys, lots of chickens and, recently, they have adopted some cats and dogs. The old people also receive visits from a travelling pet service where they can pet guinea pigs and dogs and so on - the link is here... Apparently these pet visits have massively improved the quality of life (and the outlook on life) for the old people. What a great idea. Back to the video - what a wonderful horse Peyo is! 2020-05-10--1589096774_709x664_scrot I hope that I have brightened up your Sunday with this, slightly not horse racing related, post. Have a great day but it might be an idea to have a tissue to hand at around 2 minutes into the video. As always... My kindest regards keith-eckstein1

That Feel Good Number…

focus-ratings-speed-ratingsAs promised... The following is an article which explains how I came up with the Investment Betting strategy or... More accurately, it explains my processes when I attempt to come up with a strategy for Focus Ratings. The data that I refer to can be found at... The data cover a nearly 2 year period - 102 weeks to be exact.

1). Top on R5

If you download and open the spread sheet you'll see that it consists of 8 tabs (at the bottom of the screen.)

R6 Plus Price Based Analysis

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning... Over the weekend I thought that I'd start to take a look at the best ways of benefiting from R6 Plus. I decided to start of by looking at how the results vary according to Forecast Starting Price - I had a feeling that odds on favourites might prove profitable. I created a spreadsheet with 102 weeks data. This Spreadsheet may be found at... R6PriceBasedAnalysis.xlsx Tab 1 - R6 Plus - This tab lists every R6 Plus top rated horse in Forecast Starting Price order. Tab 2 - R6 Plus Analysis - This tab shows some analysis of those horses.

R6 and R6 Plus…

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning... I am very happy to announce that... If all goes well, Today on the ratings email there will be two new links. These will link to two new add ons for the ratings - R6 and R6 Plus. Let me explain what these new ratings are, how I came up with them and... What they mean to you.

Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning... Well... It was forecast city yesterday. 5 forecasts from the 35 races (there was another but it was only a 2 horse race.) And no, I don't know why either. I keep trying to work out which races are those to bet the forecast on - to no avail. So, I'm going to fire up Wagner (my number crunching machine) and see if it can work it out for me. Yesterday I started trialing a new strategy; it's the simplest strategy I have ever tried - no filters, just "blindly back the top rated horse in these race types." There is a twist (there would have to be, wouldn't there) which is possibly why it has remained hidden for so long but, historically, over the last 4 years, this strategy has given a Strike Rate of 34.17% and a POI (Profit on Investment) of 58.86% to ISP. The strategy can be further refined to give an average of 18.63 bets a week with a Strike Rate of 35.33% and a POI (Profit on Investment) of 67.71% to ISP. I'll let you know more about this strategy after the weekend; I'm a bit wary about announcing too much too soon as it seems too good to be true - and you know what they say about things that look too good to be true.... Having said that, yesterday there were 3 selections and 2 of them won, returning a total of 5.66 points to the 3 points staked (to ISP) so I'm getting that sort of nice warm feeling that I normally only get from a glass of good Cabernet Sauvignon. Anyway, moving on, here are yesterday's results in the Traffic Light Results PDF format... Yesterday's Traffic Light Results Anyway, I'll get to that, firstly let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Morning News

focus-ratings-mornoing newsGood morning... Well... I seem to have been on a bit of a bug fixing splurge recently. The horse age is now being displayed properly and... The distances are now correct (to the nearest furlong.) Today I shall be fixing the race age problem for Irish races (it gets shown as "unknown") before carrying on down my list of things to do/fix. For more detail, here are the results in the Traffic Light Results PDF format... Yesterday's Traffic Light Results Anyway, I'll get to that, firstly let's get on and take a quick look at yesterday's results in more detail....

Important News

latestGood morning. Today I have some very important news for you. As you know, for the last 3 years I have been looking for a way to improve Focus Ratings; to move us from our current ratings strategy (R4) to a new and improved one (which I call R5.) I have been down many blind allies and been stumped by too many dead ends. At, at times, I felt like it wasn't worth the effort but... Something inside me drove me on. Basically I wanted more winners and, more importantly, more high priced winners. A few months ago I was out for a long walk and was wondering if I was making things too complicated - I realised that I was and, so. when I got home I took a look at the simplest ratings ever designed...
