Jockey and Trainer Combinations..

focus-ratings-jockey-trainer-combinationMany of you may have noticed that on today's email, there was an extra link (link 7 on your email)...

A link to... Focus Ratings (Unique Jockey/Trainer - All) in Normal (Landscape Course Order) PDF format

This link displays a PDF document with all horses in all races, where it is the Jockey's only ride in a meeting and the Trainer's only horse at a meeting, regardless whether they are rated or not.

However, most of you were probably so flabbergasted that I actually managed to get the ratings out first time without any errors that you may have missed the new link?

I'll let you into a secret...

3 alarm clocks, all set for 3:30am, and lots of testing before the ratings got sent out did the trick!

So, with some extra time on my hands, I decided to try and do some work on those races where it is the Jockey's only ride in a meeting and the Trainer's only horse at a meeting.

I have generated a spreadsheet which contains all the horses in every race since Focus Ratings started (7th January 2013.)

The spreadsheet is fairly straightforward, the only column that might be slightly confusing is the Unique column; this will be 0 unless it is the Jockey's only race in a meeting and the Trainer's only horse in a meeting; then it will be 1.

The link for the Races spreadsheet is... http://focusratings.com/data/races.xls

I am not a tipster!

Now, I do have to mention (and I may have slightly mentioned this before?) that I am not a Tipster.

I have nothing against tipsters but...

I am aware that I see my job as accurately applying a number (or rating - a bit like Adrian Massey used to do) to every horse in a race which indicates that horse's statistical probability of winning that particular race (dependant on that race type, the race going and the race month), based upon 17 years of historical data (and some rather dubious programming skills?)

However, it would be remiss of me not to mention that the spreadsheet (at the above link) does contain races where Unique Jockey/Unique Trainer doesn't actually mean much (Amateur races, Apprentice Races, Gentleman's Races come to mind but there may be many others?)

So, it's really up to you to analyse the data (if you wish to) to come up with your own ideas.

Narrowing it down....

Now...

I've also created another spreadsheet...

This one only contains those race entries (during the period when Focus Ratings have been active) where it is the Jockey's only race in a meeting and the Trainer's only horse in a meeting.

I did try to generate a similar report for all races for my 17 years of data but it would take until Christmas until it's finished!

The link for the Uniques spreadsheet is... http://focusratings.com/data/uniques.xls

I have done a basic Pivot Table on this spreadsheet but you need to be aware that I haven't filtered out the un-applicable races (those Amateur Races etc.)

I'll leave it up to you to do your own analysis (after all, I'm not a tipster... just a ratings bod?)

I might just want to mention, though, that looking at the good Jockeys and Trainers (those with a good strike rate) might point a way to a strategy?

However, if I were to say that, that make make me a tipster so...

Please just forget that I just said that?

Further Analysis...

I shall be doing further analysis on the data and...

As long as we have no more of those morning email disasters...

I should be able to identify those race types/those race classes where it might just be worth looking at those races where it is the Jockey's only race in a meeting and the Trainer's only horse in a meeting.

And finally...

Once again, I do apologise for the last 2 day's morning email problems!

I've committed to getting up at some unearthly hour in order to be able to implement and fully test the previous day's changes.

If all goes well, it should only be for a couple of weeks?

And now, if you'll excuse me...

I've been up since 3:30am (2:30am your time!) and I think that I'll go out for a little walk and....

If my little walk ends up near a bar (as they strangely seem to do these days)...

I may just have a little Apéritif, so....

Yec'hed mat (Breton), Santé! (French) or Cheers!

My kindest regards
