A Free System!

So, another day, another system.

I know that many of you don't use systems and just use the ratings in the manner for which they were initially created...

Namely, to reduce the field and allow you to concentrate on the real contenders.

However, I promised, yesterday, that I would create a portfolio of systems that you might want to subscribe to...

And so, it was an early start for me so that that I could come up with another system to add to the portfolio.

Flat Claimers – big priced boys

Once again, the system title really says it all.

In Flat Claimers
Where the horse is male (colts, geldings and stallions)
And the Horse's Forecast Starting Price is greater than 3.0

Now, I have to admit that I cheated a little bit...

You see, I live, breath, speak (and even dream!) the ratings about 24 hours a day and so I have, over the last year, noticed some interesting things.

I'll explain...

I stared out by taking a look at our daily updated Races by Race Type statistics page.

I knew that Flat Claimers were a great starting place with a Strike Rate for the Top Rated horse of 36.07% and a reasonable number of races.

Now, the cheaty bit is that, I have noticed that when our top rated horse wins these races, it tends to do so at a reasonable price.

Try it for yourself...

Go to the Builder and run a simple query; set the Race Type to Flat and Race Type 2 to Claiming and...

That's it!

The Top Rated horse is chosen by default and the results are...

The Strike Rate is... 43.42%
The Average SP is....2.87
The overall ROI is... 124.62%

So, blindly backing the Top Rated horse in Flat Claimers is profitable on it's own!

That's a great start for any system!

That was the cheaty bit!

I looked at a number of filters but, because Flat Claimers are not what I'd call classy races, many of the filters didn't help.

I then took a look at the Sex field.

And, hey ho...

I found that boys do better than girls!

Once again, that's not a sexist remark; I'm fully aware that, in most things in life, people of the female persuasion do far better than than us mere males.

Apart, of course, from the pub things - playing darts and drinking beer, in other words.

Now, to put the cherry on the cake, I thought, why not ignore those races where the Forecast Price of the Top Rated horse was more than 3.0.

The logic here is I want those winners to make me more than 50p (or 50 centimes, in my case.)

I know that there may be strategies for backing odds on favourites but...

They don't really tickle my fancy?

Bingo!

The whole process took about 15 minutes.

System Statistics

There have been 30 qualifying races over the last year (in two of them, the selected horse was a non-runner.)

From these there have been 13 winners.

That gives us an decent strike rate of 48.15%

At an average SP of 3.40

Which equates to an ROI of 163.71%

Conclusion

So, this little system will only give just over 1 selection a fortnight but...

I'll certainly be adding it to my portfolio as it fills my basic criteria of...

1). High Strike Rate. I like winners – losers upset me.

2). High ROI. Why bet on horses if you’re not going to make money?

3). Sound logic. Every system in the portfolio will have some sound logic behind it. Thus, there will be none of those systems (what I call Benjamin Street Systems) where you bet on horses that came 3rd last time out, are running in only 13 horse races where the saddle cloth number is even on days when there’s a full moon (but not in February or June, of course!)

Combined, they will give 77 selections a year. I want a selection every day (from my portfolio) so I'm about 20% there?

More work ahead, me thinks? But, it's easy stuff and really, quite fun to do!
